Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to have a consultation?

Yes. Having an initial consultation helps you to fully understand what I offer and how I can help you. I provide evidence based information. I will support you in your decision on how you want to birth.

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

Medical staff and I work well together. We want you to experience a positive birth and staff and I develop a relationship based on mutual respect for everyone. I do not speak for. I may help and ask you questions if you look confused or unsure such as, would you like to think about this? Would you like some more information? Some times so much is coming at you all at once, but I want you to have informed consent and make sure you feel you are doing what is best for you and your family.

Midwife vs Doula

Midwives are medically trained. They perform vaginal checks, listening to fetal heart tones and can even cut the umbilical cord. They also catch babies. Doulas are not medically trained so we no not do any of the above. Doula do provide emotional, educational, and physical support measures during labor. Support you and your decisions. Also assist with chest feeding.

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

Absolutely not. Your partner is there for you not only on a physical level but also an intimate level as well. I am there to provide assistance with my educational level should something come up. I would stand in the background until my assistance is needed. In our initial consultation, I will go over how I’ll help you and your partner during labor and delivery.
